Arm lifts can improve your appearance

Arm lifts can improve your appearance

January 10, 2017

Over time, your upper arms can droopy or flabby looking, even if you exercise. Causes can include aging, weight changes or even your genetics.

An arm lift (brachioplasty) is a cosmetic surgery procedure to remove fat and sagging skin under the upper arm to create a firmer, toned appearance. An arm lift is appropriate for people who, despite exercise, may still be bothered by loose hanging skin between their armpit and elbow.

Arm lift procedures can be an outpatient procedure or require a short hospital stay, depending on the extent and areas of treatment.

The surgeon makes an incision between your elbow and armpit, on the inner side or back of the arm. Fatty deposits are removed surgically, with liposuction, or both.

Sutures are placed inside the arm tissue to tighten and reshape it. The incision is closed with sutures. In some cases, temporary drainage tubes are placed under the skin to help prevent fluids from collecting under the skin.

As your swelling resolves, your new look is immediately apparent and will continue to improve. You can help maintain your new toned arms by maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle.
