Plastic surgery can’t help when you get your nose out of joint

“Getting your nose out of joint” has nothing to do with plastic surgery or even the need for plastic surgery. It’s an ancient saying that dates back as far as 1581, and it means reacting with hurt feelings or anger.

That 1581 reference is attributed to Barnaby Rich, in his “Farewell to Militarie Profession.” He said, “ “It could bee no other then his owne manne, that has thrust his nose so farre out of ioynte.”

Sounds even more painful in Early Modern English.
